Questions

Q: What is the difference between “functional” and “non-functional” pottery?
Really, that is your first question? Next.

Q: Is your pottery available for sale?
A: No, it is privately collected. I love saying that. What that really means is that I give most of my pots to my friends and family and since they are friends and family they just grunt and take them.  I have no idea what they do with the pots when I leave their house.

Q: If your work is not for sale, why have this website?
A: It's 100% vanity - plain and simple. I just like to see my pottery on the web and show it off to unsuspecting acquaintances.

Q: Why do you make so many bowls and not pretty things like vases?
A: I like to make bowls, they are easy to make, you can eat out of them, and they fit in the cupboard; vases are the exact opposite.

Q: Is it true that you were hired to teach Demi Moore how to do pottery in the movie “Ghost”?
A: No, it was a rumor that I spread in 1990 to see if anyone would believe me.

Q: After almost four decades of making pottery, is there anything you have learned that would be of help to those just beginning their journey on the potter’s wheel?
A: Yes, there is one universal truth that I have discovered after thousands of pots.  Just about everyone prefers a pot with the shiny glaze.  A crappy pot with a black shiny glaze always is picked before a well designed “interestingly glazed” pot.
